I felt really good about my time this year. I beat last years time by 8 minutes. Finished the 10k in 53:05 (approximate), 8th in my age group and 61st place overall.
The first couple of miles were difficult. My body just wasn't responding to the race pace very well. I wanted to just stop but kept on. Eventually the feeling passed and I felt better as I settled in. If you can find number 29, that is me.
I started off quickly as usual and even though I wasn't feeling the best I was toward the front going into the trails. I always feel better toward the front of the pack. Once I'm on the trails it takes a lot of energy to pass (or keep from being passed!).
<---------------- Everyone else seems so relaxed. I don't think I've been so focused since driving to Detroit-Rock-City in a snowstorm. LOL.
After a couple of miles I began to settle in and to feel better.
<----------- I've always dreamt of running for Team Nike! Don't I just look like a natural.
"And here comes Doug iRunnerbuzz Campbell for Team Nike. Doug is coached by Nike's Alberto Salazar, who was just begging to coach Doug". Yeah. Dream on!
As mentioned above I finished in 53:05'ish. That's me about to cross the finish line.
THANK YOU to Ron Leonhardt from the Rockford Road Runners for letting me use these pictures.
If you want to view more of Ron's pictures from this and many more area races check them out HERE.
I did slightly strain the same hamstring that I tore during last years Survivor 15k. So I need to rest a little before any more hard training runs.
Next up: The Survivor 15k in February!
