2011 Survivor 15k Trail Race...'survivor' is the right word to use for this 4-race event!

First thank you to Ron Leonhardt for making photos available from the race here

I've done better.  I've done worse.  1:26:30 (?), about three minutes slower than last years race.  After looking at my race log I noticed that even though my total weekly mileage over the last six months has not really changed, my running style has.  I used to run few days each week, but longer in length.  Now that my work schedule has changed, and continues to do so, I've been running more days each week but fewer miles as I am trying to fit in my runs at lunch time.  I've also had few long weekend runs, mainly do to the colder temps and my reluctance to 'go long' on the treadmill.  Truly a love hate relationship with the treadmill.

I didn't really start to fast, maybe a little, but not to bad.  However by mile 4 thru 6 I was really struggling (ok, maybe I did go out to fast! lol)  I can see where my shorter, faster lunchtime runs has hurt my endurance.  I need to run more consistent longer runs on the weekends.

I did recover somewhat during miles 7 thru 9 although as last race, I was passed by several in my age group during this period and fell from my estimated (at the time) AG place of 5th to 9th overall.  This was my toughest run and race since last years Survivor 20k, which I ran with a strained hamstring.  Tough is not the word.  Larry and the Coyotes will love to hear that!

Congratulations to Mark Hepworth, Steve Jaycox and Bernie who all whipped my behind and now have bragging rights for the next 30 days.

Here is a couple pictures, one of Steve and me, #29.  Sorry Mark, couldn't find a pic of you.

Mark, where are ya, man?

Weather was perfect.  About 30 degrees at race time and sunny.  The course was very muddy with ice and snow highlights.  Thankfully the race was not today due to our rain.  Those trails must really be rugged now.

Thank you to Larry Swanson and all of the volunteers that helped behind the scenes.  I was truly whipped upon finishing this race but I'm thankful for those that help put on such a great running event for all Northern Illinois runners.

On to the 20k...
