Life has been busy. It is for many of us. While my life has become increasingly busy too, I've managed to continue running and training.
December 2010 began the 2011 running season with the Survivor Series 5k. Held at Rock Cut State Park, this four-race series increases distance and toughness each month. January met the cold 10k version followed by February's 15k. Possibly the most brutal of the four, the 15k is very hilly with two rope climbs, mud, ice, snow and chilly temps.
This month is the finale, the 20k on the 19th. While this is the longest distance in the series it is usually not as uneven a course. Unless the race director changes the course the main challenge should be running the distance. Last year I ran the 20k in 2:00:03 so my main goal is to finish well under two hours and also to finish the series in the Top 5 of my age group. It will take a very good race from me to accomplish both.
Training has been going well. I've been able to get in at least one longer distance run each week, with 2-3 runs in between. My work schedule will be changing soon so I will have to learn a new way to schedule runs. Should be interesting.
Tentatively I plan to run the Arny 10-miler in April followed by assisting at the Literacy Council Half Marathon in early May. A week later I plan to run the Rockford Half Marathon through the streets of downtown Rockford into Loves Park and back. Wish me luck!

Hey Doug,
ReplyDeleteI'm from HeartRateMonitorsUSA.com, and we've been reaching out to other health, fitness, and cycling blogs to highlight on our blog, http://Blog.HeartRateMonitorsUSA.com. So glad I came across yours!
We'd love to write a blog post highlighting your site (maybe 10 question interview with you?), and would feel honored if you could also write about HeartRateMonitorsUSA.com on your blog. If it makes it easier, we can always whip up a short but sweet post about who we are and what we have to offer, and send it over to you to post on your blog. Just let me know :)
Thanks for your time, and keep up the great blogging!

Good luck tomorrow! See if you can keep your shoes clean this time. The lovely Ruth hates washing those groady things ;-)
