Tip your cap to Larry Swanson
Another Rock River Valley runner makes darn good on a national level: Loves Park’s Larry Swanson, organizer of the HOBO and Survivor series at Rock Cut, knocked out the Leadville (Colo.) Trail 100 this weekend.
Yes, that’s as long as it sounds, and I imagine that somehow it’s even tougher than this description makes it sound:
The 100-mile out-and-back course is in the midst of the Colorado Rockies. Low point, 9,200 feet; high point is Hope Pass, 12,600 feet. Majority is on forest trails with some mountain roads.
Rock Cut must look/feel flat as a board coming back from that, and a marathon must feel like a Sunday afternoon stroll.
Larry was 342nd overall, with a time of 29:50:34. Unbelievable, in a good way. Congrats, Larry; treat yourself to a good massage (or 10 or so), and thank your buddy Doug Campbell for bragging you up to the local media folks.
